In briefThe Spanish Institute of Accounting and Auditing (ICAC), the national audit oversight authority, has opened public consultation on NIA-ES 570 (Revised 2024), «Going Concern», by a Resolution of 16/07/2026 published in Spain’s Official State Gazette (BOE) on 07/08/2026. Comments may be submitted for two months from the day after publication. The standard has not yet been approved and is not yet applicable: in the meantime, the current NIA-ES 570 applies.

What the ICAC has published

The ICAC Resolution of 16/07/2026 (BOE no. 192, 07/08/2026, BOE-A-2026-17276) submits two documents for public consultation:

  • Annex I: NIA-ES 570 (Revised 2024), the Spanish adaptation of ISA 570 (Revised 2024) issued by the IAASB, the international body that develops auditing standards.
  • Annex II: the conforming amendments to NIA-ES 200, 210, 220 (R), 230, 250 (R), 260 (R), 315 (R2019), 450, 500, 510, 540 (R), 560, 580, 600 (R), 610 (R2013), 700 (R), 701, 705 (R), 706 (R), 710, 720 (R) and 805 (R).

The scope is broad: it affects the engagement letter, written representations, subsequent events and all the reporting standards. It is the second significant change this year, following the amendment of the NIA-ES reporting standards in relation to corporate income tax published in January.

Deadline and how to submit comments

Section two of the resolution opens a two-month period, counted from the day after publication in the BOE, that is, from 08/08/2026. Counting from date to date, the period would end on 07/10/2026; confirm the exact date before submitting. Comments are submitted in writing to the ICAC or to the professional bodies representing auditors: the General Council of Economists of Spain (Registro de Economistas Auditores) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Spain (Instituto de Censores Jurados de Cuentas de España). The text can be consulted on the ICAC website.

What changes compared with the current standard

According to the IAASB, the international standard strengthens risk assessment, always requires an evaluation of management’s assessment and improves the transparency of the report. The Spanish text under consultation includes, among others, the following points:

Aspect Current NIA-ES 570 Draft NIA-ES 570 (Revised 2024)
Status Mandatory Under public consultation, not applicable
Assessment period At least twelve months from the date of the financial statements At least twelve months from the date of approval; in Spain, understood as the date on which the directors prepare (formulate) the accounts
Management’s assessment Evaluated by the auditor Evaluation of method, assumptions and data, with attention to possible bias
Auditor’s report Specific section if there is a material uncertainty More information on the auditor’s responsibilities and work
Application In force Proposed in Annex II: financial years beginning on or after 01/01/2027 and, in any case, engagements contracted from 01/01/2028

Two nuances should be noted. First, the application date is a proposal in the consultation text; the final date will be set by the approving resolution, whose date is still blank. Second, the international version applies to periods beginning on or after 15/12/2026, but in Spain it will only be mandatory once the ICAC approves it.

What it is advisable to prepare now

Although the standard has not been approved, the direction of travel is clear. Companies can get ahead with:

  • A cash flow forecast covering at least the twelve months following the preparation of the accounts, with explicit assumptions.
  • The maturity schedule for debt, covenants and financing renewals.
  • Sensitivity analysis for falls in sales or increases in costs.
  • A viability plan if there are recurring losses or liquidity pressures.

For audit firms, the change will affect engagement letters, representation letters, audit programmes and report templates, so it is advisable to plan training.

Frequently asked questions

Does NIA-ES 570 (Revised 2024) already apply to 2026 audits?

No. It is under public consultation. Until it is finally approved, the current NIA-ES 570 applies.

Who can submit comments?

The resolution does not restrict who may do so. Any interested party may submit them in writing to the ICAC or to the bodies mentioned within the deadline.

Will my company’s auditor’s report change?

Foreseeably yes, once the standard is approved, because the NIA-ES reporting standards are amended. The final content will depend on the text that is approved.
