How we work with companies in Murcia

Remote coordination

Information requests, submission of documentation and review of drafts are handled by secure electronic means, which reduces disruption to your administration.

On site during harvest seasons and inventory counts

For fruit and vegetable and canning businesses, the timing of the count matters: we plan the visit to the warehouse or packing centre around the season and the year-end.

Good connections with the Vega Baja and Murcia

Alicante and the Region of Murcia are linked by motorway, which makes it possible to arrange day visits to Murcia, Cartagena or Molina de Segura when needed.

A partner involved in the engagement

The engagement partner takes part in planning and in the closing meetings with management and, in cooperatives, with the governing board.

When do you need an auditor in Murcia?

  • Your company exceeds the size thresholds. Companies that, for two consecutive financial years, exceed two of these three thresholds must be audited: total assets of €2,850,000, net turnover of €5,700,000 or 50 employees (Article 263.2 of the Spanish Companies Act, LSC). Find out more →
  • You are a Murcian cooperative. Law 8/2006 on Cooperative Societies of the Region of Murcia refers to audit legislation and adds audits required by the articles of association or agreed by the general assembly (Article 84.1). If the cooperative is not required to be audited, 5% of the members may ask the Register to appoint an auditor (Article 84.2). Find out more →
  • Cooperative with a credit section. Murcian cooperatives with a credit section must have their accounts audited every financial year and file the audit report with the accounts at the Register of Cooperative Societies (Article 8.2 of Law 8/2006). Find out more →
  • Justification of aid from INFO or the CARM. Where the terms of the call require it, the grant expenditure statement is accompanied by a report from a ROAC-registered auditor in accordance with Article 74 of Royal Decree 887/2006 and Order EHA/1434/2007. Find out more →
  • More than €600,000 in grants or public contracts. Accumulated public aid of more than €600,000 in a financial year makes an audit mandatory (second additional provision of the RLAC); so do public sector contracts of more than €600,000 that exceed 50% of net turnover (third additional provision of the RLAC). • NextGenerationEU funds. If your company is carrying out projects financed by Spain's Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), it is advisable to review the justification and control documentation before the programme closes. Find out more →

Region of Murcia legislation we take into account

Alongside the Spanish Audit Act (Law 22/2015) and its implementing regulation (Royal Decree 2/2021), the following rules carry particular weight in the Region of Murcia:

  • Cooperatives: Law 8/2006 of 16 November on Cooperative Societies of the Region of Murcia requires accounts to be prepared within three months of the year-end (Article 83.2) and filed with the Register of Cooperative Societies within one month of their approval, together with the audit report where applicable (Article 83.4). Article 84 regulates the audit: the cases in which it is required, requests by 5% of the members, appointment by the general assembly for a period of three to nine years and registration of the appointment with the Register within one month. Failure to carry out a mandatory external audit is a serious infringement (Article 139.3.d).
  • Grants: Law 7/2005 of 18 November on Grants of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia implements the regime of the Spanish General Grants Act (Law 38/2003) at regional level. Aid from the Instituto de Fomento de la Región de Murcia (INFO, the regional development agency), an entity governed by Law 9/2006, is also governed by the terms of each call for applications, which determine whether the justification requires an auditor's report.
  • External audit: the Region of Murcia does not have its own regional external audit body; the Tribunal de Cuentas (Spanish Court of Audit) audits its public sector and includes it among the regions without such a body in its reports.

Auditors in Murcia: frequently asked questions

No. Our office is in Alicante (Avda. Maisonnave, 30, 1.º B). We work with clients throughout Spain, coordinate much of the work remotely and travel to the Region of Murcia when the engagement requires it.

Yes. Attending the physical count is standard practice when inventories are significant, as in fruit and vegetable warehouses, canning businesses or wineries. We schedule it with you around the season and the year-end date.

Yes. We apply Law 8/2006: the audit cases in Article 84, the obligation for cooperatives with a credit section (Article 8.2) and the filing of accounts with the Register of Cooperative Societies within one month of approval (Article 83.4).

If the cooperative is not required to be audited on other grounds, 5% of the members may ask the Register of Cooperative Societies to appoint an auditor, at the cooperative’s expense, provided that no more than three months have passed since the financial year-end (Article 84.2 of Law 8/2006).

Yes, where the terms of the call require it. We review the grant expenditure statement in accordance with Article 74 of Royal Decree 887/2006 and Order EHA/1434/2007, using the template set by the awarding body.

In addition to the usual areas, we pay attention to sales cut-off and Incoterms, exchange differences, the recoverability of amounts owed by foreign customers and settlements with growers. Having those balances reconciled speeds up the work considerably.

The general assembly must appoint the auditor before the end of the financial year to be audited, for a period of three to nine years, and register the appointment with the Register within one month (Articles 84.3 and 84.5).
